Motion capture technology at the University of Plymouth
The University of Plymouth is celebrating the start of 2026 by throwing open its doors to anyone thinking of a career in the creative industries, on Saturday 10 January.
The Creative Futures Taster Day is a hands-on day of creative workshops, inspiring creative industries talks. Tours of the University’s facilities, games arcades, creative arts exhibits, and pop-up shops, plus guidance to prospective students on how to put their portfolios together.
Plymouth is ranked second in the UK for Creative Arts and Design and first in the South West for learning opportunities in the subject area, according to feedback in 2025’s National Student Survey.
And January’s event will feature the University’s students, alumni and academic staff, including the Head of the School of Art, Design and Architecture, Professor Misha Myers .

When I arrived in Plymouth to start in my new role, just over a year ago, I knew this was an extraordinary place, but there was so much untapped potential. I could see how our offer to students could become even stronger.

Since then, we’ve worked hard to reimagine our courses, focusing on the skills and experiences that prepare students to step into a creative future, that empower bold ideas, diverse voices, and fearless creativity to design and build the world we all need – one shaped by creativity and innovation at its core.
I’m proud that my brilliant team offers high-quality, modern courses in an institution that gives our learners the full 360-degree university experience; a library loaded with resources, a gym to keep you fit, a students’ union full of clubs and societies, and students from all over the world studying across multiple disciplines. We have all the things you need to change the world!
I hope that lots of people will visit us on 10 January, to see what’s on offer at one of the country’s best places to study the creative industries.

Music at the University of Plymouth
Workshops being offered at the taster day span the University’s creative subject areas: 3D Design, Architecture, Built Environment, Creative Media, Filmmaking, Games, Graphic Design, Illustration, Music, Photography, and Performing Arts.
And you can explore Plymouth’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Immersive Media Laboratory, Digital Fabrication Laboratory, Games Lab, and The House, plus music and sound recording studios.
The event also offers an opportunity to be part of the University’s Creative Futures Assembly, which will explore the exciting growth and innovation that’s currently transforming the creative industries in Plymouth and beyond.
Professor Myers will deliver a talk on the topic and host a panel of creative industries speakers, featuring Hannah Harris (CEO Plymouth Culture) and Hannah Sloggett (co-director of Nudge Community Builders), including inviting audience members to pose questions to the panel.
