A family whose mother could not speak or hear has praised a project which helped them communicate with her in her final days.
Jerry Camp explained how his mother Cath Camp ‘got a real lift’ from receiving video calls from family throughout the UK while at Valley View Rest Home in Plymouth, the flagship home owned by Ark Care Homes Ltd, before her death in August following a short illness.
Delivered as part of the University of Plymouth ‘Skype project’, Jerry, from near Guildford, Surrey, said the calls ‘really helped to bridge a gap in communication’ – as Cath had no hearing or speech following a bout of childhood meningitis and was unable to communicate via phone.
