Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry (PUPSMD) has entered into agreements with the Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, China, for joint working on research and postgraduate programmes.
The agreements relate to MSc and research masters postgraduate programmes. The partnership will explore how the two organisations can work together on joint study programmes and research, and to offer students at Southern Medical University the opportunity to study at PUPSMD.
The agreements with Southern Medical University are the latest in a series for PUPSMD with institutions in China. Plymouth University Peninsula School of Dentistry has also set in motion similar agreements with the Shen Yang Hospital of Stomatology, the School of Stomatology at Capital Medical University (whose directors visited Plymouth in 2015 and which is sending its first masters student to Plymouth this March); the School of Stomatology, Shandong University, and; the Second Hospital (School of Clinical Medicine), also Shandong University.
Leading the agreements with the Southern Medical University is Professor Ji-Liang Li, Chair in Cancer Immunology at PUPSMD. He said:
“Our new partnership is based on our many years’ collaboration on cancer research. We have jointly published papers in such journals as Nature Communications, Hepatology, Journal of Pathology, Molecular Cancer, and others. These new agreements will see still more collaborative research, as well as sharing our postgraduate programmes with students from Southern Medical University.”
Professor Robert Sneyd, Dean of PUPSMD, added:
“I am delighted that we are partnering with Southern Medical University. This latest agreement with what is the fifth institution in China to partner with us stands testament to the growing international reputation we are building in research and postgraduate teaching. My congratulations go to Ji-Liang Li for brokering this arrangement.”
