'What's next?' with MA History
Our primary aim is to assist you in becoming a reflective and autonomous learner, with a range of academic, personal and practical skills to make you competitive in the job market. Your skills in critical analysis, and understanding of how society changes over time, will prove useful in a wide variety of challenging contexts. With tolerance and citizenship at the heart of the study of history, you’ll graduate with the confidence and conscience to assist others in their engagement and understanding of society.
Your deep understanding of historical research methods also allows you to take your studies further, perhaps even progressing on to a History PhD with the University?
We anticipate that as an MA History graduate you might, amongst other options, progress on to:
  • doctoral study, either at Plymouth or elsewhere
  • secure fully-funded studentships to enable you to complete a PhD
  • teach in secondary, further and higher education
  • work in a gallery, museum, archive, or across the heritage sector.

Interested in further research?
