Our annual Varsity
Championship against the University of St Mark and St John raises around
£10,000 for charity, and has become the biggest student sporting event of the
year involving thousands supporting or taking part in 12 different disciplines
from rugby to water polo, and netball to lacrosse.
University of Plymouth Students’ Union Vice President of Societies and Sport,
Philippa Williams said:
"Varsity is a much anticipated annual event that
showcases the enormous dedication and sporting talents of Plymouth University’s
students. This event is a true reflection of the importance of widely ranging
sporting opportunities at UPSU, and also enables a competitive
collaboration with Marjon University to raise money and to support local causes."
University of St Mark and St John Student's Union President, Elias McGill said:
“Varsity is one of the highlights of the year for students. The community spirit and camaraderie amongst teams and supporters highlights the power sport has to bring people together. As a Student Union, we are extremely proud of the money that has been raised every year, and that we are taking part in an event that is making a difference to local charities and the local community. To be able to take part in a competition between the two Universities in the city shows the fantastic work that students can achieve, from sporting excellence to charitable endeavours.”
Plymouth students and
staff are encouraged to support the UPSU clubs.
