Office 365: Office 2016 for PC and Mac

Notice: There is currently a small bug affecting people who edit Excel files saved in their synced OneDrive for Business folder.

What happens: If you open, edit and save an Excel file, then continue working and save again, you may get a pop up saying 'the file may have been saved by another user and give you the option to save as a copy or overwrite the file. You can select "overwrite the file" and click OK.

How to fix it: This issue is caused by a setting in your OneDrive for Business sync client. Right click the OneDrive icon in the system tray and click 'Settings'. Click the 'Office' tab and remove the tick from the box. Click 'OK' and re-open your Excel file. You can now work with your files as normal.

Is Outlook 2016 Running slow? - Troubleshooting Performance Issues

This may be the result of some old settings carried forward from the previous version of Outlook. You can take steps to alleviate these issues.

Do you have any recurring appointments in your calendar without an end date?

Make sure recurring appointments have an end date. This will prevent Outlook working to create appointments far into the future. You can always extend them when you come to the end of the recurrence. Instructions on how to amend a recurring appointment can be found at Lynda.com - Outlook Power Shortcuts. Note: These instructions are for Outlook 2013 but they are valid for Outlook 2016.

Do you display several archive files in your folder list?

You can display old archive files in your Outlook folder list but this will slow down Outlook because it has to open them every time you start up Outlook. You can alleviate this by either:

  • Closing them and only opening them when needed.
Right-click on the folder and click 'Remove'
  • If you need to access them regularly or often need to access archives online, you can import them back into your Outlook mailbox. Instructions on how to do this can be found in the guide: Importing archive files to Outlook 2016.
