PUPSMD research themes

Research at Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine & Dentistry (PU PSMD), focuses on key research themes that bring together our expertise, resources and facilities and provide the critical mass to deliver World-class translational, interdisciplinary, collaborative research.

Our research, concentrating on the prevention, detection or treatment of conditions affecting human health, is principally delivered through our flagship Institute of Translational and Stratified Medicine (ITSMED).

ITSMED research themes

ITSMED’s research, into the development of new therapeutics, diagnostics, interventions and preventative approaches, focuses on our core research themes of Cancer, Clinical Neurosciences and Infection, Immunity & Inflammation facilitated by crosscutting research and expertise in Diagnostics, Clinical Trials and Public Health.

Other PUPSMD led research themes

Our research connects researchers, expertise and activity across the University’s other research institutes, particularly Institute for Health and Community (IHC), Cognition Institute (CI) and Pedagogic Research Institute and Observatory (PedRIO), to enable medical, dental, education, health and social care research across the University.

Our high-impact, interdisciplinary Community and Primary Care Research team leads the Institute for Health and Community’s Development and Evaluation of Complex Interventions Group to investigate and evaluate treatments and preventative approaches across the healthcare sector, as part of its Health and Social Care Interventions theme.

Our internationally renowned team at CAMERA (Collaboration for the Advancement of Medical Education Research and Assessment), leads PedRIO’s Healthcare Education and Assessment Research theme, facilitating improvements in patient safety and engagement through evidence-based professional education.
