Paediatric Critical Care 2: Foundations of care and interventions (degree and masters level)

This 20 credit module is offered at degree and masters level and will build upon your existing knowledge, understanding and skills in the core elements of paediatric critical care with a holistic family centred approach.

At degree level this module will consolidate your knowledge of anatomy and physiology and the interventions required to care safely for a child or young person requiring L1-2 critical care. You will also develop an understanding of the importance of utilising research and evidence in the care of those in this age group requiring intensive and critical care whilst ensuring that your practice is based on evidence and incorporates relevant professional, legal and ethical dimensions.

At masters level you will further develop your ability to deliver justified evidence based interventions required to care safely for children and young people requiring L1-2 critical care. You will also enhance your understanding of the role of research and evidence in the care of children and young people requiring intensive and critical care whilst ensuring that your practice is based on evidence and incorporates relevant professional, legal and ethical dimensions.

This module can be studied as a standalone module at both levels, as an optional module towards some of our BSc (Hons) Professional Development pathways at degree level or as an optional module towards our MSc Advanced Professional Practice (Nursing and Midwifery Professions) programme and some other associated pathways at masters level  - please contact the Professional Development Unit for further information.
