The three schools of Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery and Psychology combine world-leading research and practical expertise across a wide range of scientific and practical disciplines.

Our staff and students form a diverse learning community and we are proud to support them in being themselves by celebrating how diversity enriches all of our lives. 

In line with University policy, we do not tolerate bullying or harassment and we are continually working on how best to support everyone in being the best they can be.

Speak Up '18

Going on placement can be challenging and stressful for students but we are here to help. Speak Up ’18 is your chance to share your experiences of placement or your fears for an upcoming placement in a safe, confidential setting as well as attend workshops and seminars from a whole host of organisations.

This free event featuring Professor Laura Serrant OBE (pictured) is here to support you in challenges you may face whilst on placement and empower you to speak up against injustice; places are very limited and are first-come, first-served. Food and drinks will be provided throughout the day.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (EDIC)

EDIC is made up of academic staff, professional services staff and students. The committee has oversight of a wide range of policies and activities to ensure the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences remains a happy and inclusive place to work at or study in. 

Recent successes from the committee include:

  • The launch of a student conference, "Speak Up '18" focusing on diversity and wellbeing on practice placement
  • The implementation of a new faculty induction process for staff
  • The creation of an annual faculty equality survey to monitor staff happiness and career development
  • Planning and marketing of "Allied Voices"; The Faculty's first event to mark International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.
