Capable practice in mental health care (degree level)

Key features

This 20 credit degree-level module will develop capable practice for those working in mental health care settings with people who have complex needs. This potentially includes people who might pose a risk to themselves or others. The module will allow the practitioner to gain skills and knowledge to apply in improving practice and service standards.

At the end of the module you will be able to:

  • demonstrate a critical awareness of the range of issues which may impact on a person’s mental health including, physical factors
  • demonstrate the development of skills in leading a change using improvement methodology within health care
  • demonstrate skills in the use of informed therapeutic response strategies to facilitate recovery and wellbeing
  • critically analyse the evidence base for practice and national policy in relation to mental health care and its application in practice.
