The Faculty of Health and Human Sciences is delighted to host a breakfast seminar with Professor Laura Serrant OBE, Professor of Nursing at Sheffield Hallam University.

Professor Laura Serrant is one of the few black Professors of Nursing in the UK. Professor Serrant's research interests relate to community and public health, specifically health disparities and the needs of marginalised and ‘seldom heard’ communities.

She has extensive experience in national and international health policy development, with particular specialist input on racial and ethnic inequalities and cultural safety.

She is one of the 2017 BBC Expert women, Chair of the Chief Nursing Officer for England's BME Strategic Advisory group and a 2017 Florence Nightingale Scholar. She is an ambassador of the Equality Challenge Unit Race Equality Charter for Higher Education.

In October 2017 she was listed as the 8th most influential Black person in the UK by the Powerlist 2018. She recently received an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list 2018 for services to Health Policy.

This free event is open to all staff in the University. Professor Serrant will talk about her work in community and public health and the challenges of building an equitable university community.

Following her talk, Professor Serrant will be presenting awards to successful Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Teams from the Faculty of Health & Human Sciences. Light refreshments will be provided.
