Assessing adult learners in their practice (masters level)

Key features

This 20 credit masters-level module will teach you about ensuring the fair and safe assessment of the practice capability of adult learners. Critical reflection on power relationships in practice and the importance of self-awareness will underpin informed use of a wide range of knowledge, tools and frameworks for assessment.

Through discussion, group activities, reading and seminar presentations you will:

  • develop a critical capacity to judge a learner’s performance in practice using appropriate evidence and grounded in shared and recorded agreements for assessment.
  • use research, policies and literature to critically analyse your own performance and ongoing development as an assessor.
  • develop confident, reflective and proficient practice assessors capable of maintaining professional values in all areas.

Course details

On successful completion of this module you will be able to:

  • critically evaluate your assessment practice, integrating ideas, perspectives and theories from appropriate literature and taking into account the broader context.
  • evaluate and critically reflect on judgments made in the assessment of professional practice.
  • demonstrate fair and equal assessment of students taking full account of diversity.
  • balance learning and assessment issues in transparent and accountable evidence-based practice.

Assessment

The assessment for this module is a 4,000 word assignment concerning a critical analysis of your work in assessing adult learners.

Entry requirements 

To be considered for a place on these modules:

  • you must have previously studied to graduate level.
  • you must be a health and social care professional registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • you must have had (within last year), have or be about to have (within the next year) access to a student/learner when undertaking this module.
