About the speaker
Professor Jen Marchbank of Simon Fraser University researches the experiences of LGBTQ2SIA+ youth but she also works with them. In 2012 she and her wife, Sylvia Traphan, founded Youth for A Change. YfAC is a group of young LGBTQ2SIA+ and allies who are advocates, educators and activists based in Surrey, BC. They work all over the Vancouver area providing workshops to RCMP, teachers, students, community and youth workers on issues relevant to LGBTQ2SIA+ youth (youth homelessness, healthy relationships, inclusive language and practice). They also have worked on several intergenerational art activism projects with QUIRK-E (queer elders) and are published in Robson, C, Blair, K & Marchbank, J (forthcoming) Basically Queer, An Intergenerational Guide to LGBTQ Lives, New York, Peter Lang Publishers. Jen will speak about her work with the group, about the importance of generational transfer of knowledge and how this all fits with her academic responsibilities.
