To kick-off the Plymouth Festival of Words, WonderZoo present an evening of spoken word and a fusion of poetry, acapella, and contemporary and interactive poetry with Plymouth Poet Laureate, Thom Boulton and Simon Travers. The evening will include writers Laura Quigley and Jacki Juno as well as spoken word performer, Robert Garnham – all compered by Nick Ingram.

Taking place in the historic China House, a venue known for its literary events, the evening will also see the three Plymouth Young City Laureate candidates take on Plymouth’s history in their poetry and short story readings, followed by the announcement of the winner of new City Laureate for 2017.

Part of the Plymouth Festival of Words

Building on the success of the city’s Plymouth International Book Festival, the Plymouth Festival of Words takes place between Wednesday 3- Sunday 5 May 2017, celebrating literature and ‘words’ through a diverse range of art forms. In addition to opening Plymouth History Month, Plymouth Festival of Words includes rich programme of writers, poets, film-makers and performance artists to Plymouth as well as the Society for Storytelling's annual gathering.

The Plymouth Festival of Words has been organised through a partnership between Literature Works, the literature development agency for the South West, Peninsula Arts at Plymouth University, Plymouth Museums Galleries Archives, Wonderzoo and is supported by Arts Council England.
