Have a go at watersports!

The UPSU watersports clubs have joined forces to give University students the opportunity to try a range of amazing watersport activities, in partnership with the Mount Batten Watersports Centre. This is a perfect opportunity to find out more about the watersports clubs at USPU.

Activities available include: dinghy sailing, yachting, windsurfing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and gig rowing. If you fancy trying SUP polo (lacrosse mixed with SUP), there will be a polo tournament taking place during the day.

There is no need to have any prior experience and all equipment, including wetsuits is provided.

All you need to bring is something to wear beneath your wetsuit, a towel and some shoes that can get wet. If you are yacht sailing or gig rowing you will need some shoes that can get wet and to dress according to the weather.

A 1.5 hour taster session costs £5 and you can try up to four activities over the course of the day.

Also included with every session is free one way transport on the Mount Batten Ferry departing from the Barbican. You'll need to bring £1.50 for the return journey. If you're not sure how to get to the ferry, our volunteers will be on hand to show you the way from the SU.

A BBQ will be available for purchase at the Mount Batten Centre.

This one day event aims to highlight the amazing opportunities available to University students. The UPSU watersports clubs will be on hand during the day to provide you with information about how to get involved on a regular basis.

How to book

  • Booking is now live - visit the UPSU Watersports Festival webpage for the latest information.
  • Booking will also be available on the day dependent on availability, and you're advised to book early to avoid disappointment.
