The Plymouth Doctoral Colloquium is an annual conference organised by Faculty of Business' PhD students to showcase the diversity of social science research currently being undertaken by postgraduate students from Plymouth University and other universities.

The main aim is to enable researchers to realise their ambitions and develop their potential by presenting, attending and networking with colleagues in different fields.

The colloquium - now in its 11th year has the theme 'Research Impact - Changing Lives through Academic Research’.

Keynotes will talk about 'Research Impact', 'Publishing in the Academia' and 'Networking in the Academia'.

Confirmed keynote speakers (all from Plymouth University) are Professor Sheena Asthana, Professor of Health Policy, Dr Lucy Davies, Research Impact and Quality Officer and Professor Salima Paul, Professor of Credit Management.

For the first time, this event is divided into four sessions (chaired by academic staff from the Faculty of Business) in the areas of: management and human resources; business and sustainability; finance and economics and policy; and law and maritime. UKPDC, again for the first time, is allocating discussants for each presenter. Each individual discussant will provide feedback and suggestions to their respective presenters, followed by their presentation. Prizes to the presenters will be distributed in five different categories.

In addition, the colloquium features:

  • A supportive environment for showcasing PhD research
  • Instant feedback from a host of expert researchers
  • Networking with journal editors and publishers
  • An evening dinner for key participants and prize giving on the evening of 16 June.

This event is hosted and supported by the Faculty of Business, and all academics and postgraduate research students in the faculty are invited to attend.
