Where in the world are the whales?
Theatre maker Edie Edmundson from Totnes has secured funding from Arts Council England and Whale and Dolphin Conservation to open her new show, 'The Whale's Tale' in Plymouth this October. The show and accompanying workshop have been developed in collaboration with Dr Clare Embling and Beth Harvey from the University of Plymouth Marine Institute.
The show connects the stories of a young humpback whale whose mother is lost to a ship strike, and a little girl in a fishing village without any fish. Using puppetry, original music and playful storytelling, the show asks how issues faced by ocean ecosystems are linked to problems faced by coastal communities, and what we can do to solve them.
The Whale's Tale aims to raise awareness of the issues facing whales and what we can do to help.
The show opens at the National Marine Aquarium on 25, 26 and 27 October (all performances from 13:00–14:00).
This will be followed by a performance and workshop at The House on 30 October where the event includes a post-show discussion with speakers including Dr Clare Embling. Before the show at the University, we will be offering a touch tour at 14:00–14:30 for anyone who would find it useful. This is your chance to get familiar with the set, puppets and characters within the show before it happens. You'll be able to feel the textures of the materials we've used, hear the voices and sounds from the show, and get a sense of the stage space.
