The popular Sci-screen series returns to the
Jill Craigie Cinema with director David Cronenberg’s reimagining of the
original 1958 version, truly one of the few examples of a remake that arguably
surpasses the original.
Jeff Goldblum stars as scientist Seth Brundle, who following an accident during
the development of his revolutionary teleportation system, a common horse fly
is merged with his own DNA during an experiment and Brundle begins to take on its characteristics in disturbing ways.
The Fly will be introduced by Peter Smithers who is an Associate Research Fellow in the School of Biological Sciences. The introduction will explore the science in the film and discuss why science and scientists are often stereotyped by the film industry. How real is the image of the lone scientist and should we really be afraid.
