The national Students Volunteering Week 2016 takes place from 22-28 February with the aim of bringing together individuals and organisations across the UK to celebrate the achievements and impact of student volunteers in their local communities; encouraging and inspiring more students to volunteer.
The Students' Union have organised a number of events around the week aimed at Plymouth University students. A selection of events are listed below - view the UPSU Student Volunteering Week page for full details.
Health and Wellbeing Day
Monday 22 February, 11am-3pm (UPSU)
Practical help and advice from volunteers including kickboxing taster session, sexual health advice and more!

Green Team Trip to RSPB
Wednesday 24 February, 9am-5pm (RSPB Labrador Bay, Teignmouth (meet in The Hive, SU))
If you feel like getting out of the city and heading down to the seaside to help out with scrub clearing and weeding to help protect threatened wildlife, come down to The Hive at 9am. Sign up required. Event details.
Motor Neurone Disease Association info
Wednesday 24 February, 12pm-2pm (next to the Quarterdeck, SU)
The Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND) needs help to set up a local Plymouth branch to improve care and support for people with MND, their families and carers. Find out how you can help.
Presentation of 200 and 100 Hours Volunteering Awards

Plymouth Schools Multi Skills Festival
Friday 26 February, 12pm-3.30pm (Ridgeway School, Plympton)
A team of student volunteers are needed to support the Plympton Primary Multi Skills Festival being held at Ridgeway School. Such volunteers will assist with; event set up, supporting young participants in their activities, timing and recording short races and leading and recording activities such as speed bounce and standing long jump, as well as supporting and supervising the Young Leaders who will also be supporting the event. Snap, Burn and Cake!
Saturday 27 February, 8.30am-5pm (Stover Canal (meet at Plymouth Railway Station))
The Stover Canal Society was formed in 1999 and is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the Stover Canal in Devon. If you fancy a day out on a train to assist with the major task of scrub clearance to prevent root damage to the structure of the canal, then sign up to attend this Green Team outing on the sign up sheets, located on the Volunteering Notice Board in The Hive within the SU. Green Team Trip to Dartmoor
Sunday 28 February, 9am-4pm (East Dartmoor National Nature Reserve (meet in The Hive))
If you want to get to grips with some habitat management work at a local Nature Reserve, then join the Green Team and help protect our environment. Tasks will take place on either the lowland heath or the ancient oak woodland and include scrub removal and burning of vegetation on a bonfire. Event details
