South West Electron Microscopy (SW-EM) | 18–19 July 2022
  • to

University of Plymouth, Drake Circus, Plymouth PL4 8AA

Save event

After the inaugural meeting back in 2019, we had anticipated that SW-EM would become an annual event but a global pandemic had other ideas! However, SW-EM now returns for 2022 with a new summer date and hopefully a sunny Plymouth venue!

SW-EM will once again be spread across two days, starting and ending with a networking lunch on each day that we hope you will join us for. There will be a sit-down evening meal, an exhibition and chance to chat to manufacturers about proposals, products or collaborations, as well as talks from both funders (i.e. UKRI funding councils) and industry.

This event is open to anyone working in or with electron microscopy, in an academic, research or commercial environment and all are welcome to attend!

REGISTRATION

Registration for this two-day community meeting is now open – please find the registration link form above. Registration is free for technical, academic or research colleagues!

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation is available at a discounted rate of £82 per night (including breakfast) at our partner hotel, Jury’s Inn Plymouth, just a short walk from the main campus. Other accommodation options, including hotels and traditional bed & breakfasts, are also available within walking distance of the University.

STAY IN TOUCH

If you’re not already signed up to the SW-EM mailing list, you may wish to do so via the JISCM@il website.

If you have any questions about SW-EM or the exhibition, please get in touch.

The South-West Electron Microscopy meeting will be offering a free, optional workshop on Tuesday 19 July focusing on optimising Sample Preparation for EBSD workshop.
Led by JEOL UK and Oxford Instruments, you will learn tips and tricks directly from the experts, all from our brand new facility here at Plymouth Electron Microscopy Centre .
Topics to be covered include:
  • understanding the difference between Mechanical and Ion-Beam Polishing
  • tips on how to maximize indexing of #EBSD patterns
  • learn how to speed up the throughput of EBSD samples.
Places are limited, and workshop delegates must be attending the full South-West Electron Microscopy meeting in order to register.
