The Social Science Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) will be holding a one-day conference to bring together social science PhD students from across the University. 

The conference aims to:

  • provide networking opportunities for doctoral students
  • promote cross-disciplinary thinking
  • identify common experiences and training needs.

There will also be opportunities to learn about the role of the DTC and to help plan its activities for the year ahead.

Programme

11:00-11:15 - Introduction to the Social Science DTC (Dr Richard Yarwood)
11:15-12:00 - Social Science Research at Plymouth University: a summary of what PhD research is happening in the DTC's constituent schools/subjects
12:00-13:00 - Research 'speed dating': a chance to hold short cross-disciplinary conversations with other postgraduates
13:00-13:45 - Lunch and poster discussions
13:45-14:15 - Research impact: getting the most from your PhD (Dr Lucy Davies, Plymouth University Research Impact and Quality Officer)
14:15-14:30 - World café: the social science postgraduate experience - cross-disciplinary breakout groups to identify issues and common training needs in the DTC
14:30 - Close (Dr Richard Yarwood)
