This seminar (part of the ResearchEd Seminar Series 2014-15) will be given by Professor Megan Crawford, Director of the Plymouth Institute of Education.
Good governance is at the heart of effective headteacher performance management. Conversely, ineffective headteacher performance management may be a symptom of ineffective governance. It is a complex and demanding process and one size does not fit all. This research carried out in academies and maintained schools by a team from three universities, highlights the most important implications for governing bodies in designing, putting into place and sustaining effective headteacher performance management.
The research identified key challenges to implementing effective headteacher performance management and the team suggested recommendations for governing bodies to consider. The seminar will look at the process of research as well as the conclusions.
