About Tectona

The Tectona is a gaff rigged ketch built in India in 1929 and managed by the Island Trust as a youth sail training ship. The Tectona was the sail training ketch between 1964 and 1980 for the-then School of Navigation (which later evolved into Plymouth University). She was used to give seagoing experience to students, under the guidance of (by today's standards very highly qualified) senior staff.

Visit the Tectona Trust website for details about the University's links with Tectona in this article: Tectona Review for Plymouth University's 150th Anniversary. There is also a page about Tectona on the Island Trust's website.
