An event organised by Babcock International and the University of Plymouth’s LGBT+ Staff Forum as part of the University’s LGBT+ History Month activities, looking at the history of LGBT+ rights in employment and planning for the future of a more diverse, equal and happy workplace. 

This event launches the network of LGBT+ Networks from across Plymouth, where local organisations and businesses will be invited to work together, share best practice and support each other going forwards into the future. Both employers and LGBT+ employees are welcome to attend!  

  • Welcome and introduction | Paul Foster, Managing Director Devonport Royal Dockyard Ltd (Babcock) and the University’s LGBT+ Staff Forum
  • The importance of equality, diversity and inclusion | Professor Judith Petts CBE, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Plymouth, and Paul Foster, Managing Director Devonport Royal Dockyard Ltd (Babcock) 
  • Coming out at work | Dr Alan Butler, queer historian and founder of the Plymouth LGBT Archive, explores the intersection between LGBT+ lives and the work place. In his talk, he will consider changes in legislation and how far those have impacted on culture, attitudes and careers
  • How Stonewall supports employers through the Diversity Champions Programme | Mandy McBain MBE, Stonewall
  • Q&A and discussion – what are the next steps for the Network of LGBT+ Networks?
