This multidisciplinary population studies conference is organised by, and aimed at postgraduate students.

PopFest provides a relaxed and supportive environment for students to come together to present their work and discuss ideas. This is a great opportunity to network with fellow students in the same area, practice presentation skills and get feedback from peers. For those not wishing to present, it is an excellent chance to be up to date with ongoing research and for social networking.

Two workshops on the topics of ‘getting published’ and ‘careers in academia’ will also be running during the event and some more social events will be held in the evenings including a BBQ and boat trip around Plymouth Sound.

There will be oral presentations and poster sessions relating to a range of themes that are linked to the study of populations including:

  • Migration/mobility and integration
  • Life course
  • Childhood and youth
  • Health
  • Population policies
  • Fertility, contraception, sexual and reproductive behaviour and rights
  • Data uses and methodological approaches in population studies
  • Household and family demography
  • Social participation and active citizenship.

PopFest also gives postgraduates the opportunity to chair sessions so if you are interested in chairing a session please contact us.

Confirmed keynote speakers are Dr Naomi Tyrrell, Plymouth University whose talk is titled ‘Family Migration Studies: Making Spaces for Children’ and Dr Duncan Smith, UCL who will be presenting ‘Interactive Mapping: Sharing Spatial Research’.
