The Natural Connections Festival of Outdoor Learning celebrates and showcases outdoor learning this summer with a range of events across the South West culminating in a conference at the University of East London.

South West events

26 June: South West Collaboration Conference (venue: Ashton Court, Bristol)

This event launches the #thisisaclassroom movement and the Wild Time for Schools digital platform. Head teachers and practitioners will be talking about how they engage teachers in natural environments and there will be a photographic exhibition and exhibitor stands.

26 June: Primary Focus Day (venue: Seaton Wetlands, East Devon)

This day provides primary teaching staff with an invaluable opportunity at a subsidised rate to take back to school at the end of the day a fully resourced, cross-curricular unit of work for years 3–6, on the topic of rivers.

30 June (venue: Occombe Farm, Paignton) / 1  July (venue: Plymouth University): Fundraising for Outdoor Learning Workshop 

Open to everyone, these tailored workshops will provide expert advice, resources and information for fundraising for outdoor learning. The skills offered by the workshop can be used for fundraising for any learning.

1 July: A Taste of Forest School Training (venue: North Devon)

Embarking on the journey to become a Forest School practitioner is a big commitment of time and money. Try before you buy - meet the trainer Richard Irvine and get a flavour of what the training involves.

2 July: Teach Meet (venue: RHS Rosemoor, Great Torrington, North Devon)

This free networking event is aimed at North Devon and Torridge teachers to share ideas and find out about the Natural Connections two year project for primary and secondary schools in Torridge and North Devon.

2 July: National Sustainable Schools Conference (venue: University of Bristol)

A day of learning and sharing around Education for Sustainable Development, for teachers, students, pupils and others from across the South West.

3 July: International Outdoor Learning Conference - Lessons from Near and Far (venue: University of East London)

The conference focuses on  improving links between policy and research around children's learning outside the classroom in natural environments (LINE) bringing together key players from the research and policy communities.
