Students from Plymouth University will have another great opportunity to hone their skills once chosen to work with one of the South West’s most highly regarded companies.

Following the success of last year’s Michael Spiers Business Project, Futures Entrepreneurship Centre is running the competition again to further the University’s enterprise mission and enhance students’ employability skills.

Michael Spiers Jewellers is the region’s destination retailer for exclusive jewellery and watches. It is a family owned business which was founded more than 60 years ago, has locations across the South West, with showrooms in Plymouth, Truro, Exeter and Taunton, and is recognised as an award winning organisation.

Penny Hele, Inspiring Futures Project Officer for Futures Entrepreneurship Centre, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Michael Spiers again in this mutually beneficial competition. The students will deliver a valuable service to the company, bringing fresh eyes and ideas to the development of a digital marketing strategy. But it is also a chance for them to put some of the theory they have learnt into practice, gaining essential transferrable skills which will benefit their future careers.”

In February, the successful entrants will attend a bespoke digital marketing workshop, run by Futures’ Entrepreneur in Residence, and an ‘Information Evening’ held at the Michael Spiers showroom. They will undertake competitor research in comparable retailers which have embraced e-commerce and then produce a digital marketing strategy covering social media, banner advertising and affiliate marketing.

The best three will be asked to present their findings to a panel of judges and the winner will also give a presentation at the ‘Champagne Prize Giving Reception’ in May. Michael Spiers are providing jewellery vouchers for the winners, in addition to certificates and LinkedIn recommendations for all participants.
