Plymouth is hosting the first Marine Tech Expo, which will bring together decision makers involved in the latest marine innovations in blue technology under one roof at Plymouth University’s Marine Station.

The event aims to increase the number and scale of Blue Tech businesses in the city and South West and to support marine businesses to innovate, create a competitive edge and ultimately grow; creating high value knowledge-based jobs.

Delegates will be able to listen to inspiring keynote speakers talk about new frontiers of satellite applications, big data, future ship building, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), marine research, marine biogeochemistry and ocean observation, marine training academy, South Coast Marine Cluster, maritime cyber security and exporting marine expertise overseas.

The day includes a tour of the state-of-the-art Marine Station and live demonstrations of some of the UK’s most advanced autonomous surface and underwater vehicles, research vessels and technology in operation.

The expo will be the first of a series designed to showcase the city’s marine credentials across the world in the run up to the Mayflower 400 celebrations in 2020.

Plymouth City Council is working in partnership with organisations such as Plymouth University, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, Destination Plymouth, Sir Alister Hardy Foundation for Ocean Science (SAHFOS), UK Trade and Investment, the Marine Biological Association and the Devon Chamber of Commerce to boost employment and investment in Plymouth and the South West, particularly putting Oceansgate at Devonport’s South Yard on the global map.
