‘The Journey Begins’ is the first of three anthologies of young people’s writing; a collection of creative works of poetry, pose, or stories, in the lead up to the city’s Mayflower 400 commemorations.
In partnership with Plymouth City Council, University academics and students are delivering project support over three years through editing, illustrating, publishing, and printing the books in the theme of the Pilgrim Fathers journey to America.
The first anthology is to be launched at Plymouth’s Guildhall on 24 May, at which each of the young authors will receive their own copy of the book by the Lord Mayor.
We are joined by guest speaker and storyteller, Katy Cawkwell, who will deliver a performance that brings the Mayflower story to life, followed by a talk on how she draws from historical events to create such captivating renditions.
University students have been integral to this project, delivering creative writing workshops for school children and in project managing the collation and creation of the anthology.
Please note that attendance at this event is by invitation only.
