This seminar by Richard Race focuses on integration and education-policy making. 

Integration (Tomlinson, 2001; Modood, 2013) is defined as a conditional relationship between the state on the one hand who creates specific education policy and on the other hand how individuals and communities respond to that policy. Richard's current research (Race, 2015, Race and Lander, 2016) is looking at how this definition is applied to inclusive education, the social construction of the child, citizenship education and the National Curriculum (DfE, 2014). 

The national curriculum was created by the state (ERA, 1988) and the three core and seven foundation subjects have changed little since 1988. Aldrich (2001) and White (2012) have shown how the national curriculum was created and how it has slowly evolved over time (DfE, 2015). Integrationist applications underline who created and why the national curriculum was created. Richard will also suggest that current education policy on Academy Schools (Gunter, 2011) is also integrationist as more primary schools are gaining Academy status.
