Welcome to your research degree with the University of Plymouth!

At the induction day there will be opportunities to talk to representatives from support services such as the library and the International Office. You will meet other new research students, learn about regulations and procedures and start to think about your professional skills development.

New students who are unable to attend our induction session can participate in an introductory webinar.

Induction day programme

0900  Registration and tea/coffee

Doctoral College session

This session will introduce new research students to research degrees, university processes, opportunities and resources.

0930 – 1100  Professor Roberta Mock, Director of the Doctoral College

1100 – 1130  Tea/coffee break

1130 – 1230  Dr Cristina Rivas, Doctoral College Manager

1230 – 1330  Lunch

A light lunch with Doctoral College staff and academic staff, faculty and school introductions.

1330 – 1430  Developing as a researcher, Sarah Kearns, Researcher Development Manager.

This session will include an introduction to planning your research training and development; identifying milestones and project planning; expectations, motivation, support and wellbeing.

1430 – 1500  Information Specialists and the library

1500 – 1530  International Office (international students)

1530 – 1630  Faculty sessions facilitated by Deputy Directors, Doctoral College

This session will include methods, ethics, resources, expectations, support structures and who to contact if you need help.
