"As one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled has shown unto many." - Governor William Bradford of Plimoth Plantation.

You are invited to attend the third Illuminate and Thanksgiving event as part of the continuing official countdown to the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower sailing in 2020.

The aim of the event is to ‘share the light’ and inspire a sense of unity between Plymouth UK and America. This year the Wampanoag Native American people's creation story of Moshup the Giant will be celebrated as the Wampanoag were the tribe that greeted and supported the pilgrims on their arrival in the New World.

  • 16:45 - Crowds gather at the Mayflower Steps for a performance by the Mayflower 400 Legacy Choir
  • 17:00 - Illuminate and Thanksgiving speeches
  • 17:40 - The Illuminate lantern, costume and theatre parade departs from Commercial Wharf, ending up at the Guildhall where spectators will be treated to an illuminated projection show against the building at 6.30pm

See the Visit Plymouth webpage for the latest information about this event.

Plymouth University is a proud partner of Mayflower 400 UK and sponsor of Illuminate 2016.
