HotSeat is our famous interview competition, giving Plymouth University students the opportunity to practise their interview technique with experienced interviewers and gain valuable detailed feedback on their performance.
HotSeat is open to all students of any course and stage and will help you develop effective communication (through the development of professional cover letters, CVs, and interview skills), and networking skills along with increased self-awareness and confidence. All great for your CV!
You can take part in your Faculty HotSeat: the dates are below. If you’re not sure which faculty you’re part of, feel free to double-check with our team. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each faculty competition will progress to the HotSeat Final on Wednesday 15 March and win cash prizes (£250 - 1st place, £100 - 2nd place, £50 - 3rd place) for scoring highest in their interviews.
How does HotSeat work?
You will submit an application tailored to the HotSeat job description. If you are shortlisted you will be given a choice of 45 minute slots with our Careers Advisers where you'll interview and then receive feedback. You will be scored on the content of your answers, how you evidence them and your communication skills - we have a range of workshops to help you with this. After all entrants have been interviewed we will notify you by email if you have been successful in winning a prize and if you'll be going through to the HotSeat Final in March.
As an extra bonus we will be running a workshop for entrants to HotSeat. This will give you training before the event to ensure you are confident and skilled in listening and communicating, body language and telling your story. This will give you a real taste of what you could expect from an interview situation and allows you to practise core competency and skills-based questions. It is a great chance to make those common mistakes before the competition and receive hints and top tips.
All HotSeat interviews will take place in the Careers & Employability Hub on the Ground Floor of the Roland Levinsky Building.
