Dave Smith has worked with asylum seekers for many years.

In this book, seven of them tell their stories in their own words – their life growing up, the circumstances that led them to flee, how they reached the UK, and their struggles to stay once they got here. Their tales vividly bring out the human stories behind the headlines, the real lives behind the statistics.

During the Plymouth History Festival we’ll use these stories to think about the many people who have taken refuge in Plymouth, some of whom have made the city their home.

Join us to discuss what it means to be a refugee through these real-life stories.

The event is free to attend - no booking required. If you don't have time to read the book, a summary will be available.
