Join us during Fairtrade Fortnight to discuss A Good African Story: How a Small Company Built a Global Coffee Brand by Andrew Rugasira.
How can trade change Africa? Ugandan businessman Andrew Rugasira decided it was time to show the world what Africans can do, on their own, if they have access to western markets. He set up the first company to grow, process, roast and package coffee entirely in Africa.
In this book he tells the story of his business, on the way touching on the history of Uganda before during and after colonial times and on the effect on Africa of modern aid and trade. “Good African” isn’t a Fairtrade brand, but we are reading it in Fairtrade Fortnight for its insights into the world of the coffee farmer and its message about the power of trade to change lives.
Please join us to discuss A Good African Story – all are welcome, whether or not you’ve had time to read the book.
