The Futures Entrepreneurship Centre in the Plymouth Business School holds its inaugural International Week to advance research in responsible entrepreneurship, enable new collaborations and support small businesses in the South West. 

Responsible entrepreneurship is the future of entrepreneurship. Join Plymouth University for three days of lectures, presentations and workshops looking at entrepreneurship on an international scale. 

Aimed at academics, researchers, both established and early career, postgraduate students and anybody with an interest in the theories and practices of entrepreneurship, themes will include Social Entrepreneurship, Social Innovation, Internationalisation and Sustainability. This event opens a new annual route at Futures of gathering research expertise and practical business experience from different countries under a distinctive theme each year. 

The 2017 theme - Responsible Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development - delineates the scope of academic and business interest in the triple bottom line in business making of the 21st century: people, planet and profit. 

Committing to the triple bottom line and taking responsibility for the effects of business making is what Futures promotes through its activities, from research, education to business collaborations and mentoring. 

During the International Week, researchers, businesses and students will connect through a series of academic presentations, practical workshops and methods demonstrations taking place in different venues at Plymouth University and on the Barbican. Academic experts from different countries will share their findings with entrepreneurs and students, thus opening a common platform for knowledge exchange and networking. 

Alongside Plymouth Business School experts, this year the guest speakers are coming from Germany, Poland, Hungary and China.

Krzysztof Wach

Krzysztof Wach is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Department of International Trade, Faculty of Economics and International Relations, Cracow University of Economics (Poland), the head of the Centre for Strategic and International Entrepreneurship, the Vice-President of AIB-CEE Chapter for programme 2018 of the Academy of International Business (2016-2018), the member of the Board of the Kraków Branch of Polish Economic Association PTE (2015-18). Habilitated doctor (dr hab.) of economics (2013), PhD in management (2006), the author of several books and over 150 articles, the editor-in-chief of a scientific quarterly Entrepreneurial Business and Economics Review EBER (Poland) and a semi-annual International Entrepreneurship PM (Poland), the member of editorial boards of several scientific journals, including a bi-annual Business Excellence (Croatia), a quarterly StudiaNegotia (Romania), an annual Entrepreneurship – Education (Poland) and Horizons of Politics (Poland), in the years 2012-14 an OECD and European Commission national expert for entrepreneurship, in 2016-17 a European Commission national expert for youth entrepreneurship, a participant of various international projects (e.g. Atlantis, Jean Monnet, International Visegrad Fund, Central European Initiative, Erasmus Mundus, Socrates Minerva, Erasmus+, CEEPUS), a visiting professor at various American and European universities, including among others Grand Valley State University (USA), Roosevelt University in Chicago (USA), University of Detroit Mercy (USA), Loyola University Chicago (USA), Northumbria University at Newcastle (UK), University College London (UK), Technical University of Cartagena (Spain), FH Joanneum in Graz (Austria), University of Zagreb (Croatia), Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance University (China).

Dr Marek Ćwiklicki

Marek Ćwiklicki, Dr. Habil., Associate Professor at the Cracow University of Economics, a PhD in Management Science. Areas of expertise: research business methodology, business administration, organisation studies, organisational theory, infonomics, business history, public management. Experienced consultant, researcher and project leader or expert in several projects financed by the EU and for companies. Gyorgy Malovics

Gyorgy Malovics works at the University of Szeged (Hungary) as an associate professor. His main research interests are related to ecological economics. Recently he have been involved in research projects dealing with corporate social responsibility, pro-poor development, local development, sustainability and environmental justice. Beside his academic interests he have been involved in social activism related to the same issues for almost a decade. He is convinced that science should be used to contribute to the “common good” and social activism should be rooted in the meaningful understanding of the surrounding reality. This is why he started to work by the approach of participatory action research (PAR) which provides me an opportunity to effectively connect scientific understanding with social activism. 

Andrew Isaak

Andrew Isaak studied economics and German at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania and completed the full-time MBA programme in International Business at Pace University's Lubin School of Business with distinction. Since 2014, he is a PhD candidate and lecturer at the Chair for SME Research and Entrepreneurship at the University of Mannheim. He has been nominated for the Best Paper Award of the RENT Entrepreneurship conference and has published a book, (peer reviewed) book chapters and several conference papers. Previously, he coordinated the behavioural economics lab at the University of Heidelberg's Alfred Weber Institute and founded the crowdfunding startup Tommoko UG. In 2016 he spent four months on a scholarship as visiting researcher at the University of California at Berkeley researching the provision of car-sharing in and around Silicon Valley (an ongoing project). He also acts as a volunteer juror for the StartSocial business plan competition (www.startsocial.de) and as a mentor for Startup Weekend Rhein-Neckar (www.startup-weekend-rhein-neckar.de) and Straßbourg. His research interests include crowdfunding, behavioural economics and entrepreneurial ecosystems across cultures. In his leisure time Andrew enjoys travelling and the occasional tennis match.

Dr Agnieszka Zur

Dr Agnieszka Zur is an Assistant Professor at Cracow University of Economics in the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. She holds a PhD in management and entrepreneurship. Her initial work focused on corporate entrepreneurship and internal communication in organisations. Current research areas include: social entrepreneurship, social innovation, teaching methodology, socially engaged teaching and learning. Author of publications on corporate entrepreneurship, social value creation through entrepreneurship, opportunity-based view of entrepreneurship and higher education teaching and learning. Dr Zur has extensive experience in teaching entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, management and research methodology to BA, MA, MBA and PhD students. Author of course programmes based on flipped classroom and social constructivist pedagogy. She received three Rector’s awards for teaching and six Rector’s awards for research. She has initiated and conducted six editions of Social Entrepreneurship course at Cracow University of Economics, for which she has been nominated for UEK Mentor Award.As academic coordinator of Executive MBA program at Cracow University of Economics she is responsible for curriculum design and delivery. She is a certified trainer and academic tutor, creator and supervisor of the UEK honours programme for high potential students.

Dr Mohamed Haddoud

Dr Mohamed Haddoud is a Lecturer in International Business Management at Plymouth University and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK. His research interests include international entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship education and behaviour and fuzzy-set analysis. Mohamed published several articles in the Journal of Enterprise and Small Business Development, Strategic Change Journal and the International Journal of Innovation Management. He currently acts as a Chair of the International Entrepreneurship track in the Institute of Small Business and Entrepreneurship. 

Raphael Dennett

Raphael Dennett is a Plymouth University alumnus who has started several successful businesses in the South West with a global list of clients, top universities around the world, the British government and some of the brightest new start ups. His company is built on a world class expertise in media, education and technology. Raphael is Entrepreneur in Residence at the Futures Entrepreneurship Centre.

Professor Salima Paul

Salima Y. Paul, BA (Hons), PGCE (HE), MSc, MPhil, PhD, FICM, FICA. Chair of the Chartered Institute if Credit Management (CICM). Professor Paul is a Professor of Credit management at Plymouth University. She is known nationally and internationally in the field of credit management and champion knowledge exchange. Her reputation comes from her ability to bridge industrial and academic practice in the field of credit management. Her success in this domain is reflected by her association with 15 knowledge exchange partnerships that has resulted in policy changes, the provision of funding, consultancy work and participation in governmental round table discussions. Most of her work is read by both academics and professionals alike. She is often invited as a key note speaker both at home and abroad to disseminate her research findings in the area of credit management. Her other research interests include working capital management, treasury management, cash management and credit risk mitigation. Her recent research on the late payment problem attracted media attention and the final product was endorsed by Department of Business Innovation and Skills. Her work also is used to shape government policy. Salima  is also: Fellow of CICM, Membership of the International Credit Forum for IT, Member of the European Institute of Purchasing Management, Member of the Consultancy Board of the British/West African Forum for Trade and Business Partnership, Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Credit Collection and Risk, Member of CICM Advisory Board Services and Educational Officer for CICM’s Bristol and West branch.

Dr Sofia Daskou

Dr Sofia Daskou is currently a Lecturer in Marketing at the Plymouth Business School and a Relationship Development Manager for Academic Partnerships, at Plymouth University. Sofia is also the President of the International Advisory Council for the Marketing Profession (part of the IIMP). Previously she was an Assistant Professor at Hellenic American University, the University of Strathclyde, and has collaborated in teaching with the University of Stirling (UK), the University of Abertay (UK), and Emory University (USA) where she acted as MBA project evaluator. Sofia holds a PhD from the University of Strathclyde, an MSc in Marketing from the University of Stirling and a BSc in Business Administration from the American College in Greece. Her consulting background focused on industries of higher education, the Scottish media and advertising industries, and a number of UK-based manufacturing firms. Her teaching and research interests focus on customer issues, customer satisfaction, service quality, respecting customers, marketing communications, quality assurance in higher education, relationship marketing, strategic alliances, CRM, marketing and services management, Public Relations, branding consumer behaviour and entrepreneurial cognition. Her research work appears at the Journal of Organizational Change Management, the Global Business and Economics Review, the Journal of Relationship Marketing, the Journal of Financial Services Marketing, The International Journal of Arts and Sciences. She is also a member of the Editorial boards of the International Journal of Business and Economics Research, the International Journal of Marketing Principles and Practices, and regularly reviews submissions at the UK Academy of Marketing, the European Academy of Marketing, Marketing Intelligence and Planning, the Journal of Product and Brand Management and other journals.

Professor Peijie Wang

Professor Peijie Wang is Professor of Finance at Plymouth University, UK, Affiliate Professor at IÉSEG, France, at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) and Fudan University, PRC. His research interests cover political economy, international macro monetary economics, economic and public policy, organisation, sociology and real estate. Prior to Plymouth, he was Full Professor at IÉSEG and University of Hull. He held faculty and visiting positions at a number of institutions, including Manchester Business School, UMIST, University of Manchester, IÉSEG, Nanjing University, HIT, Cass Business School, City University.

Professor Richard Saundry

Richard Saundry is Professor of HRM and Employment Relations at Plymouth University. He is one of the UK's leading experts in the management of workplace conflict. Richard started his working life at the National Union of Mineworkers where he was Head of Industrial Relations, and subsequently worked at the Universities of Leeds and Central Lancashire. He is an author of Managing Employment Relations the core CIPD text for Employee Relations and a co-editor of a book Reframing Resolution published in 2016 by Palgrave Macmillan. His work has been published in a wide range of leading international academic journals including the British Journal of Industrial Relations, Human Relations, Human Resource Management Journal and Work Employment and Society.

Dr Panagiotis Tziogkidis

Panos Tziogkidis is a lecturer in Economics at Plymouth Business School since April 2013. He holds a PhD in Economics from Cardiff Business School. Apart from his teaching and research within Plymouth Business School, he has collaborated with the US Department of Transportation as an expert adviser on issues of efficiency and productivity analysis. He has been invited by the European Commission to present his recent work on the Global Innovation Index. Panos has practical experience from the banking sector, having worked as an investment analyst. His research interests include both methodological aspects of efficiency and productivity analysis as well as empirical applications. His theoretical research currently focuses on the performance of Bootstrap DEA and the development of efficient alternatives. His current empirical research considers the effects of regulation on banks' productivity and on alternative interpretations for the Global Innovation Index. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, while he also serves as a reviewer for the European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR), Annals of Operations Research (ANOR), Journal of Productivity Analysis (JPA), the Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance (QREF), the International Journal of Banking, Accounting and Finance (IJBAF) and Applied Economics.

Dr Marta Hawkins

Dr Marta Hawkins, Director of the Futures Entrepreneurship Centre, Plymouth University, Researcher in Creative Industries and Cultural Studies is a consultant in creative branding, curator, researcher and an experienced educator of 20 years. In her research she combines critical theory and practical expertise from the creative sector. As a practitioner, she specialises in social entrepreneurship, creativity and cultural ethnography. Educated in the field of the Humanities and Creative Pedagogy, she is an awarded filmmaker, applying documentary, photography and poetry to capture social and economic problems of diverse communities. She has published in the field of visual and consumer culture, creativity, urban development, diasporic studies, and post-communist transformation (The Everyday of Memory, 2013 Peter Lang). As a researcher she is interested in breaking the boundaries between disciplines and implementing philosophical thinking and ethical principles to entrepreneurship and education.
