Are you looking to boost your project management skills?

This free half-day taster course will help managers and aspiring managers to acquire the skills to plan and manage successful projects through interactive workshops based on a degree apprenticeship course at the University of Plymouth. It will equip learners with an overview of the principles and techniques of project management and provide an introduction for possible further higher level study.

Whether you are new to project management or are looking to refresh your existing skills and knowledge, this course will be of benefit to you.

Outline of the session

12:30-13:00 Lunch and registration

13:00-13:15 Introduction

13:15-14:45 - Workshop 1: Demonstrating the value of project teams

  • Project change - what does the organisation need moving forward
  • Project planning - who contributes which resources to ensure delivery

14:45-15:00 - Coffee break

15:00-16:30 - Workshop 2: Determining faster project implementation

  • Progress - when to check progress against plans
  • Risk - how to reduce likelihood and/or impact of delays on plans

Each workshop will involve practical team-based activities. The course is being delivered by the University of Plymouth with funding from the European Social Fund as part of the Hidden Talent in Devon project.

A free networking lunch will be provided. Due to the nature of the funding delegates are required to bring ID as proof of age and the right to work in the UK - a passport is the most suitable proof. Please note that we cannot accept driving licenses.

The Strategic Employer Engagement (SEE) and Hidden Talent projects provide opportunities to unlock unrealised potential through improving access to higher education for businesses and individuals across Devon.

Supported by the European Social Fund, the projects bring together educational partners across the region to deliver outreach, engagement and skills development activities to promote and encourage participation in higher-level skills, regardless of ability or education level.
