The Womens’ network is pleased to sponsor this lunchtime lecture by Jasmine Kelland and introduced by Dr Virginia Fisher exploring the barriers faced by working parents who challenge more traditional parental gender role stereotypes.

Jasmine is presenting the initial findings of her PhD, which explores the impact of gender role stereotyping of parents in the workplace. Early findings point to the existence of a 'Fatherhood Forfeit' for fathers who behave in a way that is incongruent with more traditional parental gender role stereotypes by wanting to work less hours to facilitate active involvement in family life. Support for the existing literature, which purports the existence of a 'Motherhood Penalty' for mothers who act contrary to such parental gender role stereotypes by working full time has also been found in the initial analysis.

This lecture is open to all parents and caregivers please email jess.darling@plymouth.ac.uk to indicate your attendance.
