FLUX is a fast paced competition where you will work in a team of six to plan and present a business idea for a real business challenge, provided by an employer.
Regardless of your degree subject or career plan, being able to demonstrate core business skills and sound commercial awareness is something all employers look for in graduates. These are also valuable skills for starting up your own business and being self-employed. FLUX will launch you into the world of business and will cover the key areas of Finance, HR, Marketing and Strategy/Operations.
The competition takes place over a full day and the top two teams will go through to represent their faculty at the University FLUX Final on Wednesday 1 March 2017.
Is this competition for me?
This competition is for any student within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities who wants to put a fantastic event on their CV to evidence a multitude of attributes including:
- commercial awareness
- team work
- working under pressure
- project management
- confident presentation skills
- ideas generation
- networking and a professional manner
- communication skills.
There are cash prizes up for grabs: £300 for the winning team, £100 for the 2nd place team and a £40 prize for the overall best presenter of the day.
This event will provide invaluable business and employability skills development, so if you want to boost your CV and have the chance to network with graduate recruiters and make an impression, then this is the event for you!
How do I enter?
There are ten team spaces available and each team requires six members. You can enter as a full team of six, with 2-5 as part of a team or individually and we will match you to others looking to make up a full team.
To enter, please submit the following details to email@example.com by Wednesday 11 January 2017:
- Team name
- Names, courses and years of study (stages) of all team members
- Team captain
- Your team photo (as this is a business challenge these would typically be in business wear and in a professional setting. It is best to make an impact from the start!).
Team registration opens on Monday 28 November 2016.
How can I prepare?
You can come along to our FLUX workshop on Monday 23 January at 5pm (location tbc). Here you'll practise key skills such as how to network, communicate professionally, how to pitch an idea and present confidently. No need to sign up, please make sure the rest of your team is coming and we'll see you there.
All team members should also attend the briefing on Tuesday 24 January at 5.30pm (location tbc). Here we will run through the programme for the next day and you will be given the top-secret scenario for the first time.
