Now in its second year, the Plymouth Contemporary, run in partnership with Plymouth Museums Galleries Archives, is an open submission exhibition, providing a platform for new, up and coming creative talent alongside artists working nationally and internationally.

The 2017 Contemporary has grown to include the city’s largest independent contemporary art venue in Plymouth, KARST, providing space to show more quality artwork and to extend the impact of this prestigious biennial.

The artists, selected by a panel of curators, art directors and artists were asked to respond to the theme ‘Visions’, a pertinent subject at a time when the world, on the surface at least, seems to be going through turbulent change. Artists have explored what the concept of ‘Visions’ might mean for us now – from the political and social, to alternative realities and other dimensions, imaginary or absurd, utopian or dystopian, concrete or literal.

Nominate your favourite artwork to win this year’s Audience Choice prize when you visit.

Thank you to our sponsors: Artmill Gallery and Framing Centre, Bond Dickinson and Frances May Favata, sculptress.
