This presentation considers contemporary environmental interrogations within the context of the social implications and political tensions relating to global warming. Focusing on photographic methods and aesthetic strategies, primary reference will be to the exhibition, Seedscapes, (Impressions Gallery, Bradford, UK, summer 2020), including reflection on the import and impact of the publications, Field Studies (Chrystel Lebas, 2017) and Archiving Eden (Dorneth Doherty, 2017). If, as Robert Adams* suggests, ‘beauty...is a synonym for the coherence and structure underlying life’, how does beauty in environmental photography operate discursively now, given seemingly incoherent and divisive global circumstances?
