Introduced by director, Jon Spira.

Director: Jon Spira, UK, 2015, 120 mins

Over the summer of 1976, a wide array of North American and British actors, along with an inexhaustible supply of film extras, donned crazy costumes and headgear to populate George Lucas's universe. Few of them understood what the film even was, let alone the impact it would go on to have culturally on a global basis. Filmmaker Jon Spira has tracked a cross section of these people down and explored the bizarre community they have formed, to find out what it means to exist in the shadow of such a phenomenon.

The screening will be followed by a live onstage Q&A with director Jon Spira, producer Hank Starrs and Laurie Goode (aka the stormtrooper who bangs his head on the door).

'Searching' season

This year Peninsula Arts have brought together a talented team of curators, artists and academic advisors to present a line-up of exhibitions, films, talks, performances and music events that all respond to the theme of ‘Searching’.

The continual search for knowledge and understanding of the world around us is what underpins and fuels university life and so ‘Searching’ seemed a prescient way to launch into the new academic year. Whether the search is for home, for identity or new experiences, this season’s programme is sure to delight and stretch your imagination in many ways.
