Effective Pronunciation Strategies for Speakers of Non-standard English
  • 2nd Floor Meeting Room, 3 Endsleigh Place, Plymouth University

Save event

Facilitated by Ricky Lowes, this is a light-hearted and solution-focused session session to raise awareness of issues that face lecturers with regional or foreign accents in communicating effectively with home and international students.

It will deal with questions such as: What difference does accent make? Is there a ‘best’ form of English accent? How can I ensure students understand me easily?

Learning outcomes
By the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • identify what can hinder speakers of different varieties of English from understanding each other
  • employ strategies to promote clarity
  • explain what the English Language Centre can offer in the way of CPD for staff who wish to develop the clarity and effectiveness of their speech.
