Coastal squeeze is the loss of habitat from the development of coastal man-made structures.
These interfere with the natural processes of the coast and can negatively impact marine life and provide space for non-native and invasive species like the Pacific oysters we see in Looe. Commercial companies and researchers alike are working together to address these issues by 'Greening the Grey' via eco-engineering solutions.
In this talk, we will hear how companies like ARC Marine, who build and develop nature-inclusive design, work alongside researchers such as Charley Clubley from the University of Plymouth to develop new ways of improving the habitat function and biodiversity of these typically barren coastal infrastructures.
