'Convoy' - the technology influence on World War 2 convoys
  • Lecture Theatre 5, Babbage Building

Save event

Dr Phil Judkins will present the story of four convoys during World War 2: one UK coastal, one transatlantic, one to Russia and one to Malta, each illustrating particular electronic features of this critical series of battles, which Churchill admitted to having been “the only thing which frightened him in the whole war”.

Allied Enigma decrypts, radar, high-frequency direction finding, jamming, magnetic and acoustic mines and the changing Axis strategies including radar intercept, guided missiles, and radar-absorbent materials are all discussed in the talk.
