He is also Director of the Building and Urban Design in Development MSc at the DPU. In addition to these activities, Dr Boano is the Director of Communication in the DPU and coordinator of the DPUsummerLabinitiative. Dr Boano’s interests are focused on urban development, contested urbanism, socio-spatial dialectics, design and urban transformations, and shelter and housing reconstruction in geographies of the global south. He is working on a series of interconnected research projects in South East Asia and the Middle East aiming to recalibrate design through dissensus.

Prior to joining UCL, Camillo worked in development and architectural practice for a number of years, became a research fellow at the Refugee Studies Centre in Oxford, joined the World Habitat Research Unit in Switzerland, and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology where I worked on a number of research and consultancy projects concerned with environmental forced migration, humanitarian urbanism, temporary shelters, post-disaster housing reconstruction, and communication in emergencies.

Some of his recent book publications include: Urban Geopolitics: Rethinking Planning in Contested Cities (Routledge, 2018); Neoliberalism and Urban Development in Latin America: The Case of Santiago (Routledge, 2018); and, The Ethics of a Potential Urbanism. Critical encounters between Giorgio Agamben and architecture (Routledge, 2017).
