Seafaring students from across the UK will meet in Plymouth to take the helm in a bid to win the 2014 British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Fleet Racing National Championships.

Plymouth University is hosting the annual event for the fourth year running at the Mount Batten Centre. Around 150 boats are taking part in two days of racing in what is the highlight of the BUCS sailing calendar.

The Plymouth University Sailing team will be hoping to retain the overall Championship title and the Marine Institute 150 Years 'with Plymouth University' trophy. Other prizes on offer include BUCS Medals and points for boats placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all fleets raced.

As well as proving to be a fun weekend, the event attracts high quality racing in some of the best sailing waters in the country. Supported by student volunteers and other local clubs, this event showcases the University, UPSU and the local community as leaders in marine sports and events.

Racing will be in Plymouth Sound starting from around 11am each day.

Spectators are encouraged to view the racing from Plymouth Hoe or take advantage of the facilities, including the café and bar, at the Mount Batten Centre.
