BETA is an extracurricular Enterprise Programme for University of Plymouth students who aspire to enhance their enterprise and professional skills and potentially start a new enterprise.

BETA will give you the opportunity to put your entrepreneurial abilities to practice via workshops, talks, mentoring and networking. The BETA Enterprise Programme will engage you in the process of developing a start-up concept and turning it into a viable business entity; however, having a business idea is not pre-requisite of attendance. If you do not wish to develop a start-up you can still take part, picking and choosing BETA sessions which will contribute to your professional development and CV.

BETA semester two schedule 

Session 1: How to have great ideas 

Can anyone can be creative? How to kick start yourself into ideas mode. Learn to create value and problem solve.

Session 2: Understanding yourself and others

How to overcome your weaknesses and supercharge your strengths. Understanding what drives people and how to provide the perfect service.

Session 3: How to be part of the solution

Understanding sustainability, social enterprise and business ethics. Using passion, purpose and profit to make a difference.

Session 4 (with mentoring): Getting ready to start up

Converting ideas into products. Understanding the planning and strategy tools that help you prepare for success. 

Session 5: How to find and talk to customers

How well do you know your customers? How to make sure they share your passion.

Session 6: How to give your business an identity

People judge a book by its cover. Make sure your brand tells the right story.

Session 7 (with mentoring): The practicalities of running a business

Ask any business owner, it’s the day to day things that make or break your business. Learn to master the practical challenges before you even start!

Session 8: Finance, tax and the law

Learn from the experts how to protect yourself and overcome the scary bits of business.

Session 9: Presentation, pitching and persuasion

Gain the confidence you need to say the right thing the right way in any situation.
