Dr Elaine Murphy will speak about Plymouth's maritime and naval history focusing on the Plymouth Sound and some well-known and less well-known stories of the of the sea. 
Dr Murphy is Associate Professor of Maritime and Naval History at University of Plymouth. Her research interests include early modern maritime history, the British Civil Wars of the 1640s and 1650s, the writings and speeches of Oliver Cromwell, and the experiences of women with the Royal Navy in the 17th Century.
