Held every five years to showcase work of British artists who have made a significant contribution to international contemporary art, the ninth British Art Show (BAS9) returns to Plymouth – for a second time – having captivated audiences back in 2011.
Plymouth, the final leg Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition, having been to Aberdeen, Wolverhampton and Manchester, will show work from 37 artists, responding to the theme of the migration of bodies, peoples, plants, objects, ideas and forms. Through film, photography, multimedia, painting, sculpture and performance BAS9 will focus on the ways that encounters between British and other cultures have enriched British society, in ways that are still visible today.
Curated by Irene Aristizábal and Hammad Nasar, the exhibition will be shown across four venues, The Box, KARST, MIRROR at Arts University Plymouth and here at the University’s Levinsky Gallery.
The artists showing in The Levinsky Gallery are Cooking Sections, Uriel Orlow, Sean Edwards, GAIKA, Maeve Brennan, Grace Ndiritu, Katie Schwab and Abigail Reynolds.
